Vision, Mission & Values
Vision
GEquity Consulting was born in the year 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic which revealed and highlighted long-standing inequities and injustices taking place across the globe, and in which organizations and individuals have been forced to re-evaluate themselves and what they stand for. GEquity was created with a vision to help create a more equitable, just, empathetic, and inclusive world for everyone. We ultimately envision a future in which all organizations and individuals will value social sustainability as much as economic performance.
Mission
Our aim is to give organizations and individuals the tools they need to foster a more equitable environment for all. We will help you to better understand the social and economic benefits of a diverse environment inclusive of age, gender, race, ethnicity, disability, and sexual orientation. We support our clients by identifying where they can become more inclusive by providing them with highly personalized, data-driven, intersectional, and evidence-based guidance on the ways in which they can effectively put this into practice.
We believe in a proactive rather than solely reactive approach, and we aim to pre-empt and help prevent potential problems within your organization before they arise, as well as provide solutions for those that may already be present. In summary, and as our name suggests, we hope to give individuals and organizations the tools to foster a more equitable environment for all and to continually hold themselves accountable for their own social sustainability.
Values
Equity
We believe in the pursuit of equity (over equality), and that this pursuit is in all of our best interests. Every human being deserves to have equal access to the same opportunities in life. This absolutely does not mean treating everyone in exactly the same way, because we are all so very different. When we all have access to the tools that we need to have the same opportunities to succeed, we subsequently create a diverse culture whereby everyone is treated fairly, everyone feels valued, and innovation thrives.
Evidence-based practice
We believe in data and evidence, not guesswork. That is why our work is rooted in rigorous academic research and data-driven evidence-based practice. Always.
Intersectionality
We believe in an intersectional approach. We understand that systems of injustice, such as racism and misogyny, are not mutually exclusive but rather are deeply interconnected, cumulative and mutually dependent. As such, any solution to tackling injustice must take this into account, and thus be intersectional in and of itself.
Empathy
We believe in practicing empathy in everything we do. People come from different places, different cultures and different backgrounds, and so we must be sensitive to and understanding of people’s distinct feelings and lived experiences. We genuinely believe in the good-naturedness of humanity, and that we are all capable of finding ways to acknowledge, understand and validate each other.
Courage
We believe in having the courage to hold ourselves accountable, to learn and unlearn. We also believe it takes courage to stand up for what is right.
