About GEquity: The Centre for Equity and Anti-Oppression
GEquity Consulting was born out of passion for social equity and justice. Our expertise lies in our deep understanding of the impacts of social injustice within and outside of the workplace. We have gained this understanding through our work, our research, and perhaps most importantly, through first-hand experiences as women and minorities.
Gender is not another word for women or girls. Rather, it examines the social, economic, and political relationships between girls, boys, women, and men. Understanding and addressing gender relations, along with all other forms of social marginalization, is part of ensuring programs are effective, rights-based, and will do no harm.
GEquity primarily collaborates with organizations that are committed to enhancing gender equality in the workplace and provide services related to gender-based violence or gender equality within the community. This includes:
- Corporations: GEquity partners with companies that strive to create inclusive workplaces, improving gender representation at all levels, implementing policies to support work-life balance, and fostering a culture of diversity and respect.
- Non-profit Organizations: GEquity works with non-profit organizations engaged in gender-based violence prevention, women’s empowerment, and advocacy for gender equality, offering tailored consulting services to maximize their impact.
- Government Agencies: GEquity supports government agencies in developing policies and initiatives that promote gender equality within their own organizations and throughout the broader community.
- Community-based Organizations: GEquity collaborates with community-based organizations that provide services and support related to gender-based violence prevention, gender equality awareness, and empowerment programs for marginalized communities.
GEquity Consulting is an independent organization but was inspired by the work of SAS Solutions, originally co-founded and run by Jasminder Sekhon, Mona Karimi, Brianna Smith, and Shannon Russell.
Vision, Mission & Values
We support our clients by identifying where they can become more inclusive by providing them with personalized, data-driven, intersectional, and evidence-based guidance on the ways in which they can effectively put this into practice. We believe in the pursuit of equity (over equality) and that this pursuit is in all of our best interests.
Our Leadership Team
GEquity Consulting is led by subject matter experts, including gender-based violence academics and survivors, women in business, as well as industry leaders with expertise in research methods. Our team, led by Jasminder Sekhon, aims to transform systems by putting people first, moving towards life-affirming systems of long-term growth.
