GEquity Consulting is an independent organization but was inspired by the work of SAS Solutions, originally co-founded and run by Jasminder Sekhon, Mona Karimi, Brianna Smith, and Shannon Russell.

Mona Karimi

  • Mona Karimi is a highly accomplished professional with a unique blend of legal expertise and business acumen. She holds a JD/MBA degree from Osgoode Hall Law School and the Schulich School of Business, complemented by an HBA degree in Socio-Legal Studies and Criminology from the University of Toronto.
  • Throughout her career, Mona has consistently demonstrated a passionate commitment to advocacy. Whether working with the City of Mississauga, Toronto City Hall, the United Nations, or various organizations within Canada, she has been a tenacious advocate for the rights and well-being of others. Her unwavering dedication to promoting justice and social progress has been a defining characteristic in all her professional endeavors, which is precisely why she was recently awarded the Trailblazer Award by the Women’s Law Association of Ontario.

Shannon Russell

  • Shannon Russell is a Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Winchester, and a doctoral candidate at the University of Oxford, specialising in feminist, queer and intersectional perspectives on criminal law, criminal justice and refugee law. Shannon has significant academic research experience, including recent projects focusing on law, gender and sexuality, sexual violence, domestic violence and image-based sexual abuse, accumulating in a number of publications in peer-reviewed academic journals. Her doctoral work comparatively analyses the role of penetration and bodily harm as defining elements of sexual offences across English, Canadian and Australian law. Shannon teaches a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in criminology, and supervises undergraduate and Master’s dissertations in criminal law, criminal justice and victimology. Prior to joining the University of Winchester, Shannon worked as a Lecturer at the University of Manitoba and at the University of Winnipeg, teaching criminal law, criminal justice and victimology. Shannon also holds an LLM Law from the University of British Columbia, an MSc Criminology and Criminal Justice awarded with Distinction from the University of Oxford and an LLB Law degree awarded with First Class Honours from the University of Edinburgh.

Brianna Smith

  • Brianna Smith received her undergraduate degree from the University of St Andrews in 2016, where she graduated with honours in International Relations. She then went on to receive her Masters of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Oxford in 2018, where she focused mainly on victimology and violence against women. Brianna has experience in market research, where she conducted research on knife crime in England for the UK government, and has extensive experience working in consulting.
